DESCRIPTION:RSVP on facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/events/484246178582685 \nAGENDA\nRoll Call\nApproval of Minutes\n(May Minutes to be added)\nReports\nTreasurer – Chair\nLegislature – Common Council\nBoard of Education – District Updates\nMayor’s Progress Report\n**************************************\n2017 Municipal Elections\nNorwalk will be electing a Mayor\,\nCommon Council and\nBoard of Education\nOpportunity for at-large candidates\nto make a two minute presentation\n*************************************\nDistrict Fundraising for the DTC\nReport on June fundraising event(s)\n*************************************\nOld Business — New Business\n**************************************\nUPCOMING EVENTS\n******************************************************************\nJune 28th at 6:00 PM\nFundraiser for the Norwalk DTC at the Blind Rhino in Norwalk\n15 North Main Street\n******************************************************************\nNext DTC meeting is July 20th\n****************************************************************** \nMinutes of the May 2017 Democratic Town Committee Meeting \n  \nThe following members attended: \nDistrict A:   Julie Corbett\, Eloisa Melendez\, Chris Yerinides. \nDistrict B:  Sonja Oliver\, Sharon Stewart \nDistrict C:  John Kydes\, Linda Langston\, Brenda Penn-Williams by Doug Stern proxy\, Samuel Pride. \nDistrict D:  Kay Anderson\, Robert Hard\, Robert Keyes\, by Heidi Keys proxy\, Bruce Kimmel\, Diane Lauricella\, Patricia Marshock by Donna King proxy\, Warren Peña\,  \nDistrict E:  Michael Barbis\, John Igneri\, Thomas Livingston\, Francis Nash\, Lucia Rilling\, Kathleen Tepper by Stuart Wells proxy\, Galen Wells. \nThe meeting was called to order by Chairman Ed Camacho at 7:45. \nThere was not a quorum when the meeting began and therefor no vote was taken on the Minutes.  There was no Treasurers Report. \nThe Chairman reported that between the 18th and 20th of July – most likely the 20th– we would have our nominating meeting.  He then introduced Chris Mattie\, a candidate for Governor \nChris Mattie said he was inspired to run by his experiences as a teacher on a Navaho reservation and his experience as a prosecutor.   His experience as a prosecutor has illustrated the need for public financing of elections and he strongly supports the program.  His financial vision for Connecticut includes tolls and allowing small businesses to enter the State employee health care program.  This would allow then to hire more people and expand.  he wants to allow municipalities to charge sales tax which would relieve some of the pressure on property taxes.  \nBarbara Smyth introduced herself.  She lives in District D and is thinking of running for the Common Council.  \nJohn Igneri gave the Council Report.  He said the mall is moving through the process and should be starting work soon.  They are making progress and working hard.  \nMike Barbis said that the B of E faces a budget crises because they assumed that the unions would change their health care to the state plan 2.0.   Two unions agreed to the change but the Teacher’s union has not.  If the teacher’s union will not budge\, they will have to make some personnel cuts.  June 12th is the Middle School graduation and June 15th is the High School graduation.  \nGalen Wells reported on the fundraising effort.  The will be a fundraiser for John and Tom and the DTC at her house on June 23rd and a fundraiser for the DTC on the 28th at the Blind Rhino celebrating the 4th of July and Thomas Hooker\, the drafter of the CT Constitution\, with Hooker Beer.  \nEloisa Melendez made a motion to adjourn.  The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 \nRespectfully submitted by Galen Wells
