State Central is having an all-day candidate training on April 29.
On Saturday, April 29, from 10am to 4pm, we will hold a free training at our Hartford HQ on running for office and government organization in Connecticut. This year I have heard from many activists who have been involved in national politics and organizing for a long time, but now want to get more involved at the local level and don’t know where to start. When we launched our candidate recruitment tool, the number one response was from people who want to run, but don’t know what office they want to run for. We totally get it — Connecticut is confusing!
This training will take you from the grassroots to the statehouse and talk about how municipal government, the state legislature, and the Democratic Party function in Connecticut — and you’ll hear from Democrats in local and state office. You’ll learn about different town boards, the elections calendar, and how running for local office in your town utilizes the same strategies and tools the big players use.
We will end the day with a get-out-the-vote phone bank for the May 1 elections. Consider it a practice run for all the phone calls you’ll make for your own upcoming campaign!
